iSpeak Translator App Reviews

As a user of a few of their iPhone apps, I knew this would be a quality app. I love that all the languages are combined in one, it makes it worth the extra cost. Its a pretty basic app, though, what you see in the screenshots is what you get. I sometimes have issues with the app speaking the text (the odd time it would speak it in a language that wasnt selected, but restarted the app solved this issue for me). I hope they honour their word and introduce "many more languages" in the "very near future". I hope it means that, and not "well be adding 1 language a year". It would be nice if there were more voice choices for each language (like in their Speakt It! app), as sometimes one prefers a male voice over a female voice. It would also be nice to have both British and American voices for English. Its worth the price, if youre after a convenient app for translating and speaking text. Itll especially be worth the price when they add more languages and if they add ore voices.

Google translate does what this one does but better and google translate is free. I was looking for a translator that works offline and this one suggested that it did. It doesnt. I want my money back unless you can get this application to work offline.

I have found this app. to be just what I was looking for. Love it... Planning a trip to Italy. It lets me come up with my own phrases. Having a great time saving them for future use.. Thanks, Linda

I thought it would have the brazilian portuguese language but looks like it didnt…. there goes my 5 dollars.

I am trilingual english-french-spanish and bought this in order to work on my german. In order to ensure that the program was adapted, I tested it out for the three languages I know. I was disapointed by the translation itself; verbs were improperly conjugated, and at times the sentence as a whole made no sense. I dont see why you would buy this instead of using free online translators such as google. However i must give credit where it is due, and say that the pronunciation is excellent and that the text to speech tool is very useful. Overall ok, not worth $5

I bought this hoping that it would deliver and a quick try out with English to French shows that it performs well. It is obviously important that you type in correctly. For example, type "di" instead of "do" and it will not be able to translate properly, leaving the unrecognized word unchanged. I wish I had had this when buying insurance in France late last year from an agency who had no English speaking personnel. We worked it all out but it took a lot longer than if I had had this software and my MacBook Air with me. The pronunciation is excellent and I like the fact that you can vary the speed of the spoken words. I have not been able to test this, but there are some words in any language that have multiple meanings - "trunk" comes to mind - and the translation would requite an understanding of context to get the right word. But by switching a translation you can get an idea of how the software handles it: The trunk road is straight > La route tronc est droit > The road is straight trunk > La route est droite du coffre > The road is straight trunk Something got mixed up in the first French to English. As another reviewer has mentioned, software costing many times more can be much less accurate, so I am not dropping any stars as I think the value for money is terrific.

Ive been studying Polish and have the iSpeak app on my phone and I bought this because I wanted to have it on my Mac but it did not offer it on here. Another request would be to please add Tagalog to your collection. Thank you I will up the rating when there is the update for the app.

I have all the separate iSpeaks on my iPad. That includes Russian. Why is there NO Russian on this app?? They are great for translation, but I have Rosetta Stone for Russian and downloaded this app thinking it really would contain ALL the iSpeaks in one, like it advertises that it does.

They icon needs to be changed to four different Flags and not all the ones they show because it doesnt translate any language but four.

I am waiting for Norwegian translation. It states above more languages coming. When exactly..... Other then this issue it is a great app and works well.

I have ispeak norwegian on my iPad, can we get norwegian in this app too please? :)

pretty useless since half the time the translator server is busy

I is one of the worse app ive purchased, the server fails about 3/4 times. They dont fix or patch things up. it gets better, they dont reply to e-mails. this app is complete BS. I bought this becayse I thought it would be or convenient and simpler than opening Safari and using google translator, but instead I find translators on the web much more easier than this piece of crap. Save yourself the money.

it has and issue "Server Error There was a problem with the translation server, please try again later"

This app is the biggest waste of money… It worked the very first time I used it to translate from Spanish to English, but ever since then it says "Server Error: Problem connecting to the server, please try again later"… I click the "Translate" button a hundred times, 99 of those were the error message. DO NOT BUY, ohh and they have not even tried to fix it…version 1.0 is crap.

I love using my iPhone app for Arabic and as a matter of fact, was advised after installing the iphone app that a version of the application was available for Mac…click here to get to the link and download it…well..here I am…bought the app and paid almost 3 times more than the iphone one and NO ARABIC! only 5 romance languages which I dont need them…what a waste of money. Be advised: unless you are bying this app for French, Spanish, German, or Italian save your money!! i wish they would offer refunds!! What makes no sense to me is the fact they offer every language possible on the iphone/ipad application…Those people from iSpeak need to get it together!

Great app like the iPhone/pad version but this one is lacking many languages. 5 stars after update.

This is my first updated review and it is getting a little ridiculous now. Have you thrown in the towel? Where are the updates? Only one and from LAST November. Did you fire your entire staff? Programmers? Guess Ill stick with my iPhone app. Gee whiz, an iPhone app working better, with dozens of more languages, than a desktop app. Who knew?

I looked through all the settings to see whether I can fix this, but it looks like I cant. This is an awful glitch since I would like to make the correct French pronunciation.
